ABSTRACT
Background:
One of the main causes of under-reporting ADR is lack of knowledge about Pharmacovigilance (PV) which is pervasive and presents a daunting problem in India.
Objectives:
The aim of the study is to assess the knowledge, attitude, practice regarding the ADR reporting among the community pharmacist.
Materials and Methods:
A cross-sectional survey on the community pharmacist in and around Belagavi city was interviewed. The target populations for this study were pharmacy graduates. The span of study was 3 months and data was collected in well-designed data collection form. Further statistical analysis was done.
Results:
Among 157 participants analyzed, males were 112 and females were 45. Majority of the participants [72%] had completed their professional qualification in Diploma of Pharmacy. According to the study 93.6% were aware about ADR but 58.6% were uncertain about pharmacovigilance. Around 96.8% believed in reporting ADR however 65.6% have not seen the reporting form. 86% respondents were willing to report but have not reported it due to lack of training, time and knowledge. Only 41 [26.1%] had a good KAP score [17.46 {SD=4.8}].
Conclusion:
The KAP of community pharmacist is appreciable however there is a need to instilled more awareness about ADR reporting and pharmacovigilance in the society.
